On the 2nd of September 2020, a webinar was organized by the Career Counselling department of The Gaudium School where the prestigious “National University of Singapore” participated. It was a virtual orientation session organized for the students of Gaudium giving them a platform for a virtual tour and interaction with representatives of the University.

The National University of Singapore is Asia’s topmost and one of the world’s leading comprehensive research universities. The Admissions Recruitment Officer at NUS- Mr Jia Hong Oon started the session by giving a brief on the prestigious University. He led the students with a detailed explanation regarding the admission requirements and the scholarship criteria for the University. The popularity of the University was highlighted as the NUS ranks 11th in the entire world and is Asia’s topmost university.  Worldwide, it ranks within the top ten in the following nine subjects:

#8 in Architecture and Built Environment

#7 in Chemistry

# 7 in Engineering- Chemical

#2 in Engineering Civil and Structural.

#10 in Environmental Sciences

# 8 in Geography

#10 in Computer science and Information systems

# 9 in engineering- Electrical and Electronics

#9 in Statistics and Operational Research

With such an impressive ranking worldwide, the Admissions Recruitment Officer stressed the point that admission for NUS is based mainly upon the academic merit of the students accompanied by meeting the required subject prerequisite. For a few of the courses, NUS conducts tests and interviews, such as Dentistry, Law, Nursing, Architecture, etc. He specified ideal time to apply which starts from mid-October every year with the closing dates differing from course to course. Admissions are usually open till March. When it comes to scholarships which are offered, he specified that it depends upon merit, preference is given to individuals who are awarded academic excellence, outstanding leadership skills and extra-curricular records. Students at NUS are also entitled to exchange programs wherein they get the opportunity of studying one year in a different country/continent such as in USA, Europe and Asia. The students came to know that NUS is tied up with 300 partner universities globally.

Ms Geetali, a present student of NUS who is pursuing her final year in Economics led the audience by sharing her experiences of studying there. She spoke about her exciting student life journey there and the kind of career, network opportunities, outside classroom involvements which the university provides exclusively for their students. It was a very informative session and the Gaudium geckos were happy to know about this.

The session opened up for a question and answer session for thirty minutes where they provided all the answers and clarifications to the questions asked by the participating parents and students. It was a wonderfully knowledgeable session as the students got a good insight into the programs offered by the University they are considering for higher education. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks.
