Date: 10th January 2018

Venue: Kollur campus and Nanakramguda

Participants: PP2 geckos and facilitators

Learning objectives:  To learn about the practice of recycling to make new things.

PP2 geckos are learning about 3 R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle. Recycling is the process of turning waste and used items into new, useful materials or products. This not only gives the old items a new lease of life, it also reduces the amount of raw material used to make new things from scratch.

To reinforce the concept, facilitators presented a puppet show of the story ‘Hare and the tortoise’. Geckos prepared tortoise with egg trays by colouring it green and putting pistachio shells on the top of it. In addition, facilitators made hare with old white socks. Geckos learnt that we could use old things to make new things. Facilitator using these two puppets presented the theatre. They demonstrated different ways in which old things can be recycled and put to use. Geckos enjoyed the puppet show. Geckos reflected on the profile in the story courageous. They understood that tortoise was courageous to take up the challenge of the race and was committed to win the race.

They learnt that recycling is the practice of reusing items that would otherwise be discarded as waste. Recycling conserves natural resources, saves energy, protects the environment, and reduces landfill. They understood their responsibility in taking care of the environment.
