Energy use has transformed society and now threatens to transform the planet. In connection to their inquiry on “Energy”, on the theme ‘Sharing the planet’ Grade 5 geckos had an interactive session on 21st March, 2017 to enhance their learning about the forms of energy, Transformations of energy and the Responsibility of humans to conserve energy. The geckos have exhibited their communication skills as they interacted with Mr. Ram, Science facilitator at The Gaudium School and asked many questions related to the various forms of energy and the different transformations of energy in explorations. The geckos understood that an energy transformation is the change of energy from one form to another. Energy transformations occur everywhere every second of the day. Furthermore the geckos had a chance to know more about the how energy is calculated and measured. They got a chance to know about the scientist who invented generator. The geckos also had a chance to discuss and know more about the working of energy through models. They were introduced to the term “dynamo” and Faraday. They were curious to know the purpose of dams in generating electricity. They observed the working model and understood the science behind construction of dams. Indeed it was a worthy learning experience for all the geckos!!
