Environmental awareness is to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection. Promoting environmental awareness is an easy way to become an environmental steward and participate in creating a brighter future for the upcoming generations. Geckos of grade 5 enthusiastically participated in a cycle rally organized for a noble cause, i.e. conservation of energy. This was an action taken on their learning. It is more than likely that our children are learning about environmentalism in school, but it does not have to be limited to school grounds. Children learn a great deal at home and by using green practices .

The initiative was to spread awareness against the depletion of non-renewable resources and to save energy. They spread messages such as, saving energy means decreasing the amount of energy used while achieving a similar outcome of end use, using less energy has lots of benefits – you can save money and help the environment, generating energy requires precious natural resources, for instance coal, oil or gas. Therefore, using less energy helps us to preserve these resources and make them last longer in the future, Instead of driving to work or school, take the bus, carpool, walk, or ride your bike to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. Consider investing in appropriate technology like clean power (solar or wind), if not for your home maybe for a community center.

This will also help wean ourselves off fossil fuels. Not only the students but also their parents contributed their part towards this cause by riding a bicycle from Hyderabad Bicycling Club to Gachibowli Stadium. According to them, what keeps them fighting for a healthy world is the future of their children. They should not have to inherit our environmental problems and in order to keep their future bright, spreading awareness is imperative. Start participating in the change and teach your community what it means to be sustainable. After you have become environmentally aware you can begin teaching those around you. The campaign acted as a catalyst for them to begin their role as a responsible citizen.
