Deepening the understanding of our geckos on the current topic Well Being, a guest talk by nutritionist Mrs. Padmaja made them understand the importance of staying healthy by taking rest, eating healthy food, proper physical activity and personal hygiene.

Mrs. Padmaja enriched our geckos with the knowledge on nutrition based on the same principles as nutrition for adults. She said needs the same types of nutrients — such as vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and fat. Children, however, need different amounts of specific nutrients at different ages.

She has guided our Geckos with few guidelines like nutrient-dense foods, limitation of calories for both girls and boys depending on their age group, with the help of a chart

To identify and strengthen their understanding Geckos were shown a PPT on health and hygiene. They were shown the various types of hygiene like physical, toilet, home, hair, oral, etc.  They were also explained about the balanced diet through a food pyramid. Geckos learnt various consequences of having junk food and effects on their personal health as they can make positive and healthy choices to support learning and achievement both now and in the future.

Mrs. Padmaja had given few tips like

  • Use a star chart to mark off how many fruit and vegetables are eaten at each meal.
  • Build a vegetable garden.
  • Blending fruits and vegetables to make a healthy shake or juice.
  • Be a good role model. Set an example for your friends.
  • Take energy and protein rich drinks.
  • Stabilize their energy.
  • Improve their minds.
  • Help them maintain a healthy weight.

The session concluded with a questionnaire by our enthusiastic Geckos. They thoroughly enjoyed and expressed their understanding of the guest lecture by Mrs. Padmaja and thanked her heartfully for her resourceful guest talk by presenting her a thank you card made by themselves.
