Our Geckos are inquiring into safety measures. They have understood the importance of rules in our life and consequences of not following the rules. Diving deep into the inquiry, they learned and discussed safety measures to be followed on road.
Guest speakers have become an important part of the educational experience for students. Students get to see the insight and perspective of the guest speaker’s particular field. One important benefit that is derived from having a guest speaker is the enhancement of the students’ educational experience.
Inviting guest speakers into classroom is a classic teaching strategy. Welcoming other voices into the classroom provides students with access to other perspectives and adds variety to the classroom routine and demonstrates that learning is a collaborative enterprise. Learning new, interesting things is part of education. To make the inquiry more enriching, we invited Captain Sapna Patel to enlighten our children with safety measures to be followed while travelling through airways.
Captain Sapna Patel started flying training when she was 17 years old. She got a job in Indian Airlines when she was 20 Years old in 1989. She has been flying for almost 30 years now. A deputy General manager in flight safety and an examiner/ instructor on Airbus 320 aeroplane. She has more than 15000 hours flying experience.
Captain Sapna connected in a clear way with what the students already know and what they are currently learning. She explained in detail about the cockpit and the safety measures to be followed through props and PPT. Later she explained about the first aid kit and precautions to be taken while taking off and landing.
She influenced our little geckos to ask questions, investigate different safety precautions like using gadgets and mobile in the plane. All this newly acquired knowledge will inspire our geckos to use their newfound knowledge while travelling.
They promised to follow the safety measures and also will request others to follow it.
It was a great way for the students to get maximum exposure as she talked about her real life experiences. She gave valuable information from her experiences which was a real help to the students. Students got the insight and viewpoint of her area of expertise.
Later our geckos reflected on the guest talk and their learning .
“Something different than the usual always seems interesting!”
