The Gaudium offers IB PYP curriculum from Nursery to Grade 5. It offers a choice in curriculum between CAIE & CBSE in Grades 6-12 and CBSE & IBDP from Grades 11-12.

Our core curriculum is an international, integrated and thematic programme through which students study their world as independent and interdependent investigators. Being an international CBSE / CAIE / IB school in Hyderabad, the curriculum teaches the traditional subject content areas through integration of concepts and skills and through discrete instruction and assessment to ensure mastery of essential content standards. Ours will be a rigorous educational programme based on skills, attitudes, concepts, knowledge and action.

Homework will be work that will be an extension of classroom learning, aimed at enhancing thinking and independent working skills. It will not be repetitive class work. This is what distinguishes us from the other regular schools. Assessment of learning is based on the Board guidelines. Every work of the student will be assessed continuously throughout the year.

Our enquiry-based programme celebrates and taps into the cultural richness within our school. Students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, life-long learners and active members in the community.

The teachers at The Gaudium understand the need to develop the gross motor, psychomotor and fine motor skills in pre-schoolers. We encourage children to interact with peers and express themselves through play and communication. This also improves their emotional and cognitive development. The progress of each child in all three domains (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor) is evaluated continuously.

Our Primary School curriculum is based on the IB PYP program. The curriculum framework is ideal for developing skills and understanding of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science in young learners. It also gives learners the foundation for seamless progress into the Cambridge Checkpoint and IGCSE or CBSE.

In line with our mission to shape our students into global citizens, we develop their linguistic skills and focus on English, Hindi and French in the primary years. We encourage creative expression and include visual art, dance and music classes as part of the holistic learning offered at The Gaudium. Sports is another area of focus and our robust infrastructure paves the way for students to keenly pursue sporting activity of their choice. Gaudium Sportopia is India’s first Residential Super Specialty Sports School that focuses on integrating education and sports.

Our Middle School Program offers both CBSE & IGCSE curriculum and focuses on the development of knowledge and skills in the core subject areas of Science, Mathematics and English complemented by Languages, Humanities and Arts.

The middle years are the most formative ones and we encourage students to become independent learners. We pay a great deal of attention to preparing students for higher classes and for the future itself. We inculcate skills such as reading and critical thinking that will hold students in good stead for the years to come.

The High School Program at The Gaudium offers CBSE & IBDP Curricula. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is an assessed programme for students aged 16 to 19. The IBDP course enables students to flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. Students excel in traditional academic subjects and in addition study at least two languages. Unique component of this course is that it provides scope for students to explore the nature of knowledge through the theory of knowledge course.

The Different Curricula

International Baccalaureate – IB

The Gaudium School is an authorised IB World School, offering the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). This is an international curriculum framework designed for all children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. The program focuses on the total growth of the developing child, affecting hearts as well as minds and addressing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic growth. The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational program.

The program offers a comprehensive, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. It provides an internationally designed model for concurrency in learning and incorporates guidelines on student learning styles, teaching methodologies and assessment strategies.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is an assessed programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is respected by leading universities across the globe including Indian universities. Through the DP course, schools enable students to excel in breadth and depth of knowledge. DP course enables students to flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. Students excel in traditional academic subjects and in addition study at least two languages. Unique component of this course is that it provides scope for students to explore the nature of knowledge through the theory of knowledge course.

The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups. The three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

The three core elements are:

  • Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.
  • The extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
  • Creativity, activity, service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.

The six subject groups are:

  • Studies in language and literature
  • Language acquisition
  • Individuals and societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The arts

There are different courses within each subject group.

Choosing subjects in the Diploma Program

Students choose courses from the above subject groups. Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages course, instead of a course in the arts.

Students will take some subjects at higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL). HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.

Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level, and the remaining at standard level.

Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. Higher level comprises 240 teaching hours.

Cambridge Assessment International Education – CAIE

Cambridge programs and qualifications set the global standard for international education. They are created by subject experts, rooted in academic rigour and reflect the latest educational research. Cambridge Lower Secondary is typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years. Schools can shape the program around how they want their students to learn, developing young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. The program provides a natural progression for children from primary education and prepares them for post-14 education program that lead to formal qualifications.

Cambridge Lower Secondary develops skills in ten subjects including English, Mathematics and Science. It is designed to help schools deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that suits their context, culture and ethos.

The curriculum sets clear learning objectives and focuses on developing knowledge and skills in all subjects, providing excellent foundations for the next stage of education. The program is flexible, so schools can offer any combination of the subjects available.

Cambridge International Scientific Inquiry Methodology

Central Board of Secondary Education – CBSE

The choice of board makes a significant difference in the development of the child’s exposure to the education system. CBSE is a board of education in India which has a global presence. The CBSE curriculum covers basic and general knowledge required for a child to move forward in terms of education. It aims at using innovations in teaching-learning methodologies by devising student friendly and student centered paradigms.

The CBSE curriculum adopts appropriate approaches of academic activities to provide stress free, child centered and holistic education to all children without compromising on quality and innovative methods to achieve academic excellence in conformity with psychological, pedagogical and social principles.

The CBSE syllabus is extremely focused on Science and Mathematics with a lot of attention paid to the application of knowledge. The focus has majorly increased on learning through experience and experimentation rather than through one-way teaching. It guides children to enjoy, leisure constructively which nurtures equanimity and grit in the face of challenges. The curriculum strengthens value based approach to life to meet emerging global challenges. The best part about CBSE board is that all competitive examinations are based on the board syllabus.

Curriculum development and curriculum innovation have been the pursuit of the Board over the years to make the curriculum more meaningful, relevant and life-oriented.

CBSE has been engaged in the in-service training of teachers and Principals as a part of its mandate and conduct capacity building programs for academic staff to support Continuous Professional Development of the teachers.

Assessments:

There is a uniform model to be followed in assessing all subjects. But the parameters are different for different subjects depending upon the difficulty level. Formative Assessment evaluate and grade class work, homework, assignment and project works too.
