Here we are at the beginning of our second theme of the academic year 2018 “Where we are in place and time” – An exploration of our orientation in place and time; of our personal histories and geographies; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.
Students are inquiring on how exploration leads to discoveries and new understandings.
And in the journey towards this inquiry, they have visited Salar jung Museum which is one of the three National museums of India.
The journey towards the museum is in itself beautiful and enriching wherein the students bonded with each other very well building their social skills. They played anthyakshari, shared their feelings and interests. It was really beautiful to watch kids sharing some beautiful moments of their life with each other.
And this didn’t just end there. The moment they entered, they glanced at the map of the museum and instantly they connected to their inquiry wherein they are understanding the importance of maps during exploration. The museum had great collections of sculptures, paintings, carvings, textiles, manuscripts, ceramics, metallic artefacts, carpets, clocks and furniture from Japan, China, Burma, Nepal India, Persia, Egypt, Europe and North America.
Students compared the artworks of different countries, how they were different from each other and what the consequences are which led them to change. Geckos inquired how exploring different countries and meeting different people around the world impact their living and lifestyle.
This field trip gave the students an opportunity to explore various factors which impacts exploration and the changes that occur due to exploration and how exploration shaped our world the way it is now.
Finally we would like to bid adieu with a wonderful quote by Mark Twain “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
