The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Hyderabad Circle under Ministry of Culture has organized activities to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness at the monument premises to the public through Swacha Bharath Abhiyan.  The Ministry of Culture conducted Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unit Day) on 31st October involving various schools. The Gaudium has accepted the invitation from the Ministry to join hands in the proposed program.   About 36 Geckos from grades 6 to 9 have been selected to participate in the celebration that was held at Hyderabad’s Heritage site the Golconda fort between hrs 9:30 to 2:00pm. Geckos participated under several categories such as the Pledge ceremony, Run for Unity, March Past, Bicycling, Nukkad Natak and Cleanliness drive. Our Hindi facilitator Mrs. Preethi Dixit is an activist who has motivated the kids for the social cause. She prepared a short Nukkad Natak script and had all her students take part in it. The Nukkad Natak comes with a strong message not to dirty the rich monument “The Taj Mahal” not to pollute the parks and cities with garbage and a satirical comparison of Indian vs. US trash /garbage disposal system. ASI host has well appreciated our script and Natak that it has wished to use our Geckos Nukkad for their promotion. We thank the ASI and the Ministry for giving us the opportunity to participate and will look forward to be a part of many more such events and social cause.
